Why Organic Gardening? A Healthy Passion!
The beginning of our organic lifestyle.

When I immigrated to Canada and settled down in Toronto, my life changed for the better in a material sense, but my health got much worse.
I have always been sensitive to chemicals and could never use nail polish, cleaning chemicals or strong perfumes. New furniture would bring me as much joy as headaches.

I have learned on my own skin what allergies are. I also had to deal with allergies and asthma that my son developed at an early age. So, my journey of discovery began from these concerns.

My husband and I started organic gardening as a result of our search for a healthier lifestyle for us and our son. We bought 10 acres of forest 75 km north of Toronto with about two acres of open area to start our organic garden. We will share our experience in establishing this garden, the  work and fun involved, and the impact on our health.

Every Saturday in autumn, my husband, our son and some other family members would drive north of Barrie to go wild mushroom picking and I have always said, “One day we are going to have our own forest and organic garden”. Well, three years ago we did get our own forest: 10 acres of it.

For the last two years, every weekend in spring and summer, I drive 75 km north of Toronto to work on my organic garden. Every time I go there I feel like I am going on a vacation. I love driving to my “Dream Forest” and listening to my spiritual tapes of Dr. Wayne Dyer, Esther and Jerry Hicks and others.

The difference in air quality in our forest is incredible. The wind and birds singing is my favourite music now.  The hand weeding can be so therapeutic. You can clear your mind completely and think only about taking care of the plants you grow. Nature is so abundant that even without watering my plants, I still had enough of everything I grew.  The crops are going to be even better after we drill a well so we will be able to water our plants occasionally next season.

At first, it was a lot of work tilling the soil and getting weeds out but it is so much easier now. I don’t buy a lot of seeds, I always use those from the previous year’s vegetables.   My raspberry patch has yielded so many berries that even now, in the middle of October, we have enough for everybody to enjoy.

In this website you will learn how to start your organic garden and select the right fruits and vegetables to grow in Ontario. We will share some simple, healthy recipes for organic fruit and vegetable dishes. Also, we will share tips on how to save money on food and eliminate food waste.

There is no better way to celebrate the abundance and freshness of natural food than by growing it yourself, preparing delicious meals and sharing them with family and friends. Learn more about the food we eat and discover just how easy it is to choose simple, healthy, local foods.

Remember, we all win by knowing more about the benefits of eating food grown by ourselves or grown locally. We contribute to a healthier planet and healthier us!  You are what you eat so learn what you put into your mouth and your body will thank you. Join us discovering a natural life style to reclaim  health and  stay young forever.

I grew up on a farm in Poland where organic farming was the only type of  farming I knew. I did not appreciate it at the time, but as I grew older and moved for 4 years to the city to study at the University of Wroclaw, I would go back to my little village every chance I had. I could not wait to go to the forest to pick some wild blueberries, raspberries, sour cherries and wild mushrooms.
